Heinola's early childhood education services consist of day care in day care centres and family day care organized by the City of Heinola, preschool education and open early childhood education activities offered by the Heinola Family Centre, and family day care organized by the private sector.

Day Care in Day Care Centres

Day care in day care centres and family day care are chargeable services, and they are charged according to family size and income.

Day care is provided for children aged 1–6 in day care centres and group family day care centres from 6:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m.

Round-The-Clock Care

Round-the-clock care refers to day care provided also during the evening, night and on weekends. Round-the-clock care is provided at the Tommola-talo day care centre.

Family Day Care

Family day care is day care provided in the childminder's own home, in groups of up to 4 children for children aged 1–4 years, from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Preschool Education

Preschool education refers to free education for children 6 years of age (a year before the start of primary school), held from August to May for 4 hours before noon in the day care centre or in school premises. In addition to preschool education, preschool-aged children also have the opportunity to use the day care services provided on the same premises. Day care is a chargeable service.

Open Early Childhood Education Services

The Heinola Family Centre offers families a wide range of early childhood services, the aim of which is to support the well-being of both the child and the entire family. Activities include sports clubs and outdoor activities, theme parties and events, expert lectures, peer groups for parents with children of different ages and in different life situations, and open club activities for children. The Family Centre's activities are mainly free of charge, except for the sports club.
